     Ryan Adam Murray will be giving a talk about the basic elements of ceremonial invocation and evocation, and how these can not only be employed in a ritual setting, but in day-to-day life as well. We will be looking at both theoretical and practical aspects of both of these magical functions, as well as the history of this kind of practice.

      In this entertaining presentation, Dr. Shoemaker will show how the Trumps of the Thoth Tarot illustrate the various tasks, challenges and transformative processes awaiting the aspirant on the path toward awakened spiritual consciousness, known in Thelemic tradition as the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel. He will then discuss the Adept’s journey toward the inevitable ordeal of the “Abyss”.
      Dr. Shoemaker will also present a brief overview of the life and legacy of Soror Meral (Phyllis Seckler), whose writings he has recently co-edited. A limited number of copies of Seckler's books will be available for sale and signing. 
About the Lecturer:
      Dr. David Shoemaker is a clinical psychologist in private practice, specializing in Jungian and transpersonal psychotherapy. David is the Chancellor of the College of Thelema of Northern California, and the Prolocutor of its initiatory Order, the Temple of the Silver Star. He has also been a member of O.T.O. and an initiate of A.’.A.’. since 1993.
     He is Past Master of 418 Lodge, O.T.O., having succeeded Soror Meral (Phyllis Seckler), his friend and teacher. He also serves as a consecrated Bishop of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica and as a Sovereign Grand Inspector General of O.T.O. David is the founding President of the O.T.O. Psychology Guild, and a frequent speaker at national and regional O.T.O. events.
     David is a co-editor of the journals Neshamah (Psychology Guild) and Cheth (418 Lodge). In addition to his essays in these publications, his writings have been published in the journals Mezlim and Black Pearl, and his chapter on Kabbalistic Psychology was included in the Instructor’s Manual of Fadiman and Frager’s Personality and Personal Growth, an undergraduate psychology textbook. He was the compiler of the COTNC publication, Jane Wolfe: The Cefalu Diaries 1920-1923, and a co-editor of the COTNC/Teitan Press publication, Phyllis Seckler (Soror Meral): The Thoth Tarot, Astrology, & Other Selected Writings, and The Kabbalah, Magick, and Thelema. Selected Writings Volume II. His instructional “Living Thelema” segments are heard monthly on the Speech in the Silence podcast.
